Cisco is making a major R&D investment in quantum networking, as quantum networks will open new possibilities in several technology domains. This session will begin with a brief introduction to quantum mechanics, with a focus on quantum bits (qubits) and some of their special properties, including superposition, entanglement, and no-cloning. This will be followed by an overview of quantum computing, to better understand the direct impact and demands this emerging technology is already having on network communications and security. Finally, we'll bring it all together to outline the building blocks, opportunities, and challenges of building quantum networks, as well as highlight what Cisco is already doing in this exciting space!
