Simply having listened to the attributes of water one cannot quench their thirst, similarly just listening to I am not this body, does not make this knowledge your own.
In your experience you live as the body and function like the body assuming it to be you, therefore you associate with all its relations and possessions. To quieten your hunger it is necessary to swallow down morsels of food and make it your experience. Therefore, to be enlightened it is vital that the knowledge heard becomes your own and your living experience. It is the body-mind-senses that are transitory and are not eternal and only the dispassionate one can truly understand this.
