We may think that a scroll saw is a modern woodworking tool, but having a scroll saw blade moving up and down is ancient tool technology. This antique woodworking machine is a pedal powered scroll saw. It has a pedal that moves a flywheel. The flywheel moves a leather cord belt that transmits the energy to one crank and to a connecting rod. And, thanks to a nice system made with guides and springs, the connecting rod moves the scroll saw blade up and down in a perfectly vertical movement. Not the same system as jigsaws.
This woodworking machine was made in the XIX century by JOUBERT TIERSOT, who made lots of different foot pedal woodworking machines. These antique tools look similar to sewing machines, but in sewing machines we have the flywheel to the right, while in power pedal woodworking tolls we have the flywheel to the left.
