They are very common in Russian, and you can find them in most common Russian phrases, like "My name is..." (Меня зовут...), "I'm 25 years old" (Мне 25 лет), "I have..." (У меня есть...) and many more! "I" is not always "Я" in Russian. Sometimes it's "меня" when it designates the object form, and then it is used in the Accusative case; sometimes it's "мне" when it designates the recipient form, and then it is used in the Dative case, and in the phrase "У меня" this personal pronoun is actually used in the Genitive case. The possessive pronoun "МОЙ" is not actually used in the phrase "My name is..." (Меня зовут...). You have to start viewing the world like Russian speakers do to really understand why we use all these different pronouns. This lesson will help you do that.
