Anders Zorn maintains a rare popularity among artists and is well written about by discerning authors, his style was fresh and always invigorating and daring too, particularly with the figure. His pictures of bathers and the female doing chores, working at the brewery or the bake shop were all subjects that interested him. It was the figure he was good at and where he excelled.
No one showed greater generosity or a wider outlook than Zorn, while, on the other hand, he was quite uninterested in the ‘new’ art. Zorn occupied a special position in the artistic life of Stockholm; he was the authoritative, self-confident man who collected around him those with whom he got on well. He sought success from the very start and developed his art first with sculpture, then with watercolors, and eventually etchings and oils. Zorn was the consummate master of the brush and values.
