The Apache Trail is finally OPEN. A 5-mile section of the trail along Fish Creek Hill suffered severe damage after severe flooding in 2019 cause a major rock slide. Arizona Department of Transportation invested $4 Million to restore the trail to its previous state over the past few months.
With the trail reopening, new restrictions exist between mileposts 222 to 227. This section can only be traveled by 4x4 and UTV vehicles, and no trailers are permitted.
The Apache Trail (Arizona State Route 88) originally known as the Tonto Wagon Road was constructed in 1904 and provides access to Roosevelt Dam during construction. It was designated as a scenic byway in 1998. Prior to the Jeep trail, it was believed to be an ancient footpath used by the Anasazi tribes.
Come along with us as we check out the newly opened trail in our 2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Diesel. I am currently running a 3.5 in Metalcloak lift and 37” Baja Boss AT tires.
