*List of what can be sown outside and inside are below.
Happy April! What an exciting time for the garden in the PNW. Spring is officially here, the weather is mellowing out and you may have already had your last frost- or will soon. April is exciting because there are so many seeds you can sow outside and you plants/seedlings will really start to take off. This video is about tips/tricks for April gardening including what to do with all of those stinging nettles popping up. April brings slugs, slugs and more slugs so stay on them- especially as new seedlings emerge. Now is also the time to plant berry plants if you have purchased them, onion starts/sets as well. Mason bees will likely be available at your local nursery or farm store if you are adding them to your garden this year. April is also a big month for transplants. Make sure you transplant your seedlings out in the late afternoon/ evening on an overcast day (best if there are a few overcast days in the forecast). The same goes for when you are hardening them off for transplant. Your seedlings will suffer shock if their environment changes are dramatic.
Seeds to sow outdoors in April: beets, orach, spinach, swiss chard, carrots, cilantro, sill, fennel, parsley, parsnips, marjoram, summer savory, lemon balm, arugula, Asian greens, broccoli, Brussel sprouts, collards, kale, kohlrabi, radish, turnips, potatoes (yay), chives, leeks, scallions, peas and lettuce.
Sow in late April: Cabbage, runner beans and purslane.
Sow Indoors in April: ground cherries and tomatillos.
Sow Indoors in Late April: Basil, Cucumbers, Melons, Pumpkins and squash (winter and summer).
