Talk 11: Mathematical Sources of Form
Architecture & Society with Larry Speck

This lecture series explores the role of architecture as a powerful cultural expression and a vital tool for economic, social, technological, and environmental impact in modern society. Rather than a traditional architectural history course, this series investigates how architecture influences and reflects contemporary culture. Through engaging lectures, listeners are asked to examine the forces that shape architectural design and explore how the built environment affects human attitudes, behavior, and interaction.

Larry Speck is a Design Principal for the architectural firm, Page. He is also an educator, having taught at M.I.T, University of Western Australia and University of Texas at Austin. He served as Dean of the School of Architecture at UT Austin 1992-2001.

In the last 25 years, Speck’s design work has won over 120 design awards—30+ from the AIA. He has received over 40 teaching awards including the AIA/ACSA Topaz Medallion.
