This Core Concept video focuses on Aristotle's work, the Metaphysics and examines his discussion in book 1 about the difference between different modes of understanding matters. On the one side, there is "experience" (empeiria), which is built up from memory and practical experience, and which grasps the particulars, but not the universal. On the other side, there is art (techne) and science (episteme), which a person who possesses can teach effectively, and which employs and grasps the universals.
