From Suriname, I entered Guyana via a ferry crossing from Nickerie to Corriverton, the border town of Guyana. It was extremely hot, and the immigration and customs process was time-consuming on both ends. After finally completing the formalities, I began riding towards Georgetown. The traffic was terrible throughout, as the entire country seems to have just one main road from end to end, which they call a highway. It’s a two-lane road, and Guyanese drivers are notorious, especially around motorcyclists, making it very dangerous. The harsh driving habits and traffic conditions made it difficult for motorcyclists like me.
Within the first day, I felt somewhat uncomfortable in this country. There are many people of Indian descent, including Hindus, Muslims, and Christians, and plenty of Hindu temples. I was looking for Tamil people but didn’t find any. It seems they’ve mixed and lost their roots after several generations. Guyana has a lot of natural resources, but the road conditions are very poor.
