The Seki rag market has been going on since the Edo period. It is held every year on December 9 and 10 in conjunction with the “Okaeshiki Eshiki” held at Hondachi Honryuji Temple on the anniversary of the death of the founder of the Nichiren sect. A lively market is held in front of the temple gate and is also called “Nen-no-ichiichi”, “Kureno-ichi”, or “Okaeshiki Eshiki no Ichiichi”. In the Edo period (1603-1867), rags, farming implements, and New Year's goods were sold, and it is said that nearby farmers purchased daily necessities.
