For this piece I begin with a charcoal drawing, then do a rough color lay with a foam brush and then continue working in some details with smaller brushes. I am working on my technique of working fairly fast and keeping the acrylic paint wet, doing a lot of the color mixing on the paper. I am told it give my acrylics a look more like oil painting than is typical for this type of paint.
I find underwater scenes particularly calming and love the quieted, resonant sounds of swimming underwater and the reflection and refractions of the light filtering through. This is the 7th underwater painting I’ve done and plan to continue the series a bit longer.
