Complete breakdown and explanation of an Atwood propane hot water heater for most RV recreational vehicle
This particular water heater would heat or should i say overheat the water to the point where it would trip the dsl fault switch and shut itself off, which means something before this step in the system failed which would be the first thermostat, The second thermostat which caught the issue is the ECO(emergency cut off), and did what it was designed to do, There is one more fail safe after the ECO by some strange coincidence, both thermostats went bad at the same time, which is a diode. It is a fairly simple 12 volt system and should be pretty easy for anyone to repair themselves especially when each part functions independently of each other and parts can be ordered separately.
Replaced both thermostat and ECO switch on this unit at the same time for maximum usability hopefully without any further needed repair in the near future.
Be sure to install thermostats in the right locations otherwise if you crossed them up the water heater would do the exact same thing. If that happens be sur to double check the correct location for each, the higher number thermstat goes on the left, and the lower numbered one goes on the right.
