The seventies was a decade of catastrophic disaster. The oxygen tanks on board Apollo 13 ruptured, almost stranding the crew in space; the Unit 2 reactor of the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant partially melted down; and the entire Swiss watch industry was destroyed by new technology coming out of Japan.
