A federal audit has uncovered serious security lapses at multiple U.S. Postal Service facilities in Sacramento County, highlighting issues with lost mailbox keys and inadequate tracking procedures contributing to rising mail theft, officials said. The audit, conducted by the USPS Office of Inspector General, reviewed three post offices: Sacramento’s main facility on Royal Oaks Drive, the Fort Sutter station on Alhambra Boulevard, and the Rancho Cordova post office on Progress Court. Among the key findings, 35% of cluster mailbox keys were missing at the Royal Oaks facility, affecting eight ZIP codes.
