The bush offers the ultimate uncontrolled environment. However, it can also deliver ultimate consequences. The bush does not produce NOTAMs. There are no windsocks, nor are there weather observation systems. It’s completely raw. Absolute autonomy. But with this freedom comes great responsibility. My survival is dependent on my ability to make good decisions. Sometimes I have to make a poor decision to get to the good decisions. Every bush pilot has a story. There are also some that don’t. And no matter how many hours I have, I’ll never let my guard down. I’ll never think I’m too fast for mother nature's punches. A complacent attitude has no place here. The bush proposes some uncertainty. However, that’s exactly the draw, the promise of adventure, that keeps us coming back for more.
In this video fly into a glassy backcountry lake in Northern British Columbia. The glassy water is so deceptive. After the stopping for a look around we depart back to home base. One of the top ten approaches of the season for sure.
