Betsy Gray is one of the most famous historical characters associated with Ballynahinch. She was killed in Ballycreen townland in the immediate aftermath of the 1798 Battle of Ballynahinch. She has since been continually commemorated by historians, poets, novelists, artists, folklorists, and politicians.
Local historian Horace Reid tells her story with help from the Ballylone band who play "The Star of County Down". This tune belongs to Banbridge, of course, but we hope Banbridge won't mind if we borrow it for a Ballynahinch heroine.
