Bangkok - what happened when I visited the reclining Buddha at Wat Pho

The reclining Buddha statue, although I keep referring to it as the ‘leaning Buddha’, is the piece de resistance of the ancient Wat Pho temple here in Bangkok, Thailand. There’s nothing like actually standing before it in the flesh, (as it were) and marvelling at the sheer artistry of it all, 46m long and 15m high of gold plated splendour from head to toe. The reclining Buddha, housed in its pavilion, seems almost too large for its shelter, but somehow, it just seems like the perfect place to illustrate the passing of the Buddha into what is known as ‘nirvana’ which when translated means the Buddha’s death. As you reach the rear of the Buddha statue they are 108 bronze monk bowls lining the entire length where as a gesture of giving alms, you can drop as many coins into the bowls as you wish. This is also deemed as giving gratitude and receiving good luck in return which to me meant everything. My visit to this beautiful temple will remain a huge highlight of my time in Bangkok. #pinderworld #watphotemple #recliningbuddha #watpho #bangkok #thailand
