Bangkok’s Paradox We Couldn't Believe Existed. | The City That Never Stops Changing 🇹🇭

Video Not Working? Fix It Now

It’s about our experiences traveling and living in Bangkok, Thailand. Subscribe to our channel for more TRAVELiving adventures, and let's explore the world together! Bangkok is a city in motion, constantly evolving. Shiny malls and towering skyscrapers dominate the skyline, bringing modern technology, air conditioning, and luxury shopping to the heart of Thailand’s capital. But if you look closer, the past is still alive. Wooden boats glide through ancient canals, and centuries-old traditions continue to be passed down through generations. In this video, we step into both worlds—exploring Bangkok’s old waterways, temples, and traditions while also experiencing the towering malls and modern landmarks that define the city today. After spending a month in Jomtien Beach, we’re back in Bangkok, and this time, we’re doing things differently. We’re staying next door to one of Bangkok’s newest temples—The Bangkok Thailand Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Dedicated in 2023, this temple blends Bangkok’s spiritual past with its modern global connections. As volunteers, we are helping with sacred ordinances that connect Thai ancestors with their living descendants. From there, we shift further into the modern side of Bangkok. To reach one of the city’s most iconic malls, ICONSIAM, we take a ferry across the river, passing massive monitor lizards swimming below. Once inside the mall, we’re amazed at the blend of tradition and innovation. The lower floor features an indoor Thai street food market with foods from multiple regions of Thailand—including baby octopus skewers, herby Thai sausages, and even rotisserie crocodile. We also try Singaporean shaved ice, which surprises us with its soup-like texture and unexpected ingredients. But Bangkok isn’t just about skyscrapers and shopping malls. Away from the modern developments, we explore what remains of the old Bangkok—the city’s extensive canal network, which once served as the main form of transportation before roads took over. These waterways stretch farther than we imagined, and life along them is still thriving. Instead of giant malls, locals gather at floating markets, where families come for lunch, and small vendors sell fresh produce and traditional foods. We visit Khlong Lat Mayom, a lesser-known floating market where we experience a more authentic, community-based side of Bangkok. This contrast between the old and the new is what makes Bangkok so unique. The city never stops changing, yet its traditions remain deeply rooted. =============================== LINKS FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION =============================== Bangkok Thailand Temple: Virtual Tour • The Bangkok Thailand Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was dedicated in 2023.
