Bangladesh Navy implementing a modernization plan under the national attempt to modernize the armed forces with advanced weapons, equipment, electronic systems and force expansions. BD Navy already bought two refurbished Chinese Type-035G Ming-class submarines, which are being deployed in the Bay of Bengal on a regular basis! But, these two submarines are not enough to secure Bangladesh’s national maritime boundary and the exclusive economic zone (EEZ). Hence two more submarine will join the sub-surface force of the Bangladesh Navy!
Bangladesh has proposed a $4.46 billion defense budget for 2021/2022 fiscal year! In this term seems that most of the purchase money allocation goes to the Air Force. So, navy should wait for its new submarine budget! But Bangladesh Navy getting its share of budget to build 2 high-performance frigates. Bangladesh trying to enhance naval force’s surface combatant’s capabilities first. Which means it will get chance to acquire two more conventional diesel-electric attack submarines in near future.
