This is the boardgame World War II: European Theater of Operations (ETO), an epic war game. I'm using the 1st edition, published in 1985 by SPI/TSR. I'm using the "starter" scenario called Scenario 1: "Case White". In this game most land combat occurs in "land offensives", and this scenario walks through a single land offensive. I summarize my understanding of the rules, but may very well be incorrect. I'd love to hear from more experienced players.
Things I did wrong:
- I believe I could have gotten an extra +1 modifier on all dice rolls due to "German Tactical Modifier" (or Blitzkrieg Bonus as it's called in 2nd edition)
This scenario may not be included in the 2nd edition of the game, so I've included the Scenario Text:
[43.0] SCENARIO 1: CASE WHITE
(Solitaire Scenario, German Player)
Begin: German Offensive Phase,
September 1939
End: After first German Offensive Phase
[43.1] Orders of Battle
Poland. All units in the Polish Order of Battle except the DD
naval unit.
Germany: All units from Starting Forces, September 1939
Order of Battle except: 6-3 Infantry (x2), all naval units, Army
Group headquarters A, B, C and M.
[43.2] Setting Up
Polish units set up first, as follows:
W3931 (Danzig): 4-3 Infantry
W3629 (Poznan): 4-3 Infantry
W3232 (Krakow): 4-3 Infantry
E3032 (Lvov): 4-3 Infantry
W3732, W3734, W3431: 4-3 Infantry
W3533 (Warsaw): 4-3 Infantry (x3),
Polish air unit
German units set up in any hexes in Germany and East
Prussia.
[43.3] Special Rules
The Germans can use a free Combined offensive with
Army Groups North and South.
The Polish air unit will attempt to Intercept German
bombers if it can do so without being counter-intercepted by
German fighters during all Steps of the Phase. If it cannot avoid
Interception, it will fly defensive Ground Support over a hex that
the Germans attack without offensive Ground Support. If it can
do neither of these, it will attack the German air units within
range that it stands the best chance of damaging.
[43.4] Victory Conditions
The German player wins if he conquers Poland in a single
Offensive Phase. Any other result is a German defeat in
historical terms.
