තුන්වැනි ඊළාම් යුද්ධය ආරම්භ කරමින් හමුදා ත්‍රිත්වයටම දිගට හරහට පහර දෙන්නට වූ එල්ටීටීඊය ඉන් අනතුරුව හැරුණේ වැලිඔය දෙසටයි. උතුර-නැගෙනහිර සහ උතුරු මැද පළාත් වල මායිමේ පිහිටි මෙම ප්‍රදේශය කාලයක පටන් හමුදා පාලනය යටතේ තිබුණා මෙන්ම, මුලතිව් කැලෑ ආශ්‍රිතව ත්‍රස්තයින් විසින් කරගෙන ගිය ක්‍රියාකාරකම් වලට දැඩි බාධාවක් වුණා. එබැවින් මෙම හමුදා කඳවුරු වැලිඔය ප්‍රදේශයෙන් ඉවත් කිරීම ත්‍රස්ත න්‍යාය පත්‍රයේ වැදගත්ම අංගයක් වුණා. ඉහළ සීදානමකින් යුතුව වැලිඔය ප්‍රදේශයෙන් හමුදාව පළවා හරින්නට ආ ත්‍රස්තයින්ට අමතක නොවන පාඩමක් උගන්වා එම ප්‍රදේශ රැකගන්නට අප වීරෝධාර හමුදාවන් සමත් වුණේ බ්‍රිගේඩියර් ජානක පෙරේරාගේ නායකත්වයෙන්. ත්‍රස්තයින් 500 කට අධික පිරිසකට මරු කැඳවූ වැලිඔය මහ සටනේ කතාවයි මේ.
LTTE was pressing so hard on the Sri Lankan Military with the outbreak of hostilities in Mid-April 1995, which declared the start of Eelam War 3. Nevertheless, a couple of Brigadiers at that time, namely Janaka Perera and Sarath Fonseka were able to command the troops under them to repulse severe attacks by LTTE on Sri Lanka Army in Mid 1995. These victories significantly boosted the morale of the troops which paved the way to execute an all-out war with the aim of crushing LTTE strongholds in the Jaffna Peninsula which was named Operation Riviresa.
