It's trumpet vs cornet vs flugelhorn! My personal favorite is the flugelhorn but cornet is really growing on me lately as a solo instrument. You'll see a comparison and demonstration of each instrument in this short 6 minute video. If you don't know the difference between cornet and a flugelhorn it's okay. Think of the cornet as the baby brother to the flugelhorn. Both are conical bore instruments and they get their warm tone from a funnel shaped mouthpiece. The flugelhorn mouthpiece is slightly bigger than the cornet mouthpiece but so is the entire instrument and for that reason, the flugelhorn has a warmer sound in comparison. The trumpet is different than both the flugelhorn and cornet because it has a cylindrical bore. Because of this, the trumpet has a higher pitched sound. All three of these brass instruments are in the key of Bb so if you learn one of them you can play all three but these instruments are generally used in different situations. #TrumpetLessonsHQ 0:00 Introduction to Flugelhorn 0:59 Flugelhorn Demo 1:30 Flugelhorn vs Cornet 2:00 Cornet Demo 2:30 Edwards X-13 3:00 Flugelhorn Different Sound Than Trumpet 3:40 Cornet vs Flugelhorn vs Trumpet Sound 4:46 Trumpet Mouthpiece, Cornet Mouthpiece, Flugelhorn Mouthpiece 5:44 Final Sound Comparison
