In 1984, LL Cool J was officially signed to Def Jam and released his solo debut single I Need a Beat. Despite the song’s simplicity, with the drum portion of the beat being the highlight of the song, LL Cool J came through on this one and showed the world that he had the hunger for more. It was well-received by fans, selling over 100,000 copies. This was only the beginning.

LL went on to have beef with Jay Z, Kool Moe Dee, Ice T, Freddie Gibbs and others. Find out more in the video.
