The Legend of Heroes' Trails sub-series has become one of the most acclaimed series of RPGs to come out of Japan. But what fans may not know is before Falcom created Trails, they released three Legend of Heroes games called the Gagharv Trilogy. The Gagharv Trilogy is considered to be a predecessor to Trails in terms of world-building and character creation, and most Western retrospectives of the games begin and end there. I wanted to dig a bit deeper and see how they stand on their own, their association with Trails notwithstanding. In this video, I introduce the trilogy and take a look at the first game, Prophecy of the Moonlight Witch (known in Japan as simply White Witch). I'll look at the other two games at a later date.
