BENIDORM OLD TOWN is an unmissable part of your Benidorm holiday. Old Town is famous for Tapas Alley and shops, bars and restaurants, and is located between the Benidorm Strip and Levante Beach, and the other side which is where you will find the sunny Levante Beach. In this video I'll show you around so come with me and let's explore Benidorm! Benidorm, situated along Spain's eastern coast in the province of Alicante, part of the Valencia region's Costa Blanca, is a renowned seaside resort with a captivating history of transformation. This popular destination boasts over four miles of inviting beaches characterized by crystal-clear waters. Among these, Levante Beach, located in the town's center, is known for its lively atmosphere, bustling promenade, and numerous restaurants, cafes, and bars. In contrast, Poniente Beach offers a more relaxed setting to the west of town, while Mal Pas Beach provides a smaller, tranquil cove nestled between the main beaches, close to the Old Town. In stark contrast to the contemporary energy of much of Benidorm, Benidorm Old Town, known locally as El Casco Antiguo, presents a charming and historically rich area. Perched on a small hill separating Levante and Poniente beaches, it offers visitors a journey into the town's past and a taste of authentic Spanish culture. The Old Town exudes a cozy and relaxed ambiance, characterized by its narrow, winding streets, vibrantly colored buildings, and quaint, independent shops. This atmosphere provides a distinct contrast to the skyscrapers and lively beaches found in other parts of Benidorm. A key landmark within the Old Town is the Balcó del Mediterrani, or Mediterranean Balcony. This viewpoint is situated on the site of a former castle and provides sweeping panoramic views of the coastline and beaches below. It stands as an iconic spot, popular for capturing photographs, particularly as the sun sets. The original castle structure dates back to the 14th century, though it was unfortunately demolished around 1812. Another significant attraction is the Church of San Jaime and Santa Ana, an 18th-century church easily recognizable by its blue-tiled domes. Located within the Old Town, this church is home to the statue of the Virgin of Suffrage, who is revered as Benidorm's patron saint. Plaza de Castelar serves as a lively central square in the Old Town's heart, brimming with cafes and bars, and frequently hosting various events and performances. For those interested in local cuisine, "Tapas Alley" is a must-visit street in the Old Town, famed for its concentration of tapas bars serving a wide array of Spanish delicacies. Shopping in the Old Town offers a different experience, with a variety of boutiques, gift shops, and stores selling locally made crafts and souvenirs. The Old Town's location also provides easy access to both Playa de Levante and the more peaceful Playa de Mal Pas. Visitors to Benidorm Old Town can enjoy simply wandering through its labyrinthine cobbled streets, discovering unique shops, inviting cafes, and traditional pubs. Sampling traditional Spanish dishes at local restaurants, especially tapas and paella, is highly recommended. For stunning vistas, viewpoints like Mirador del Castillo offer exceptional panoramic views. To further immerse in local culture, a visit to the Benidorm Market, held on Wednesdays and Sundays, provides an opportunity to browse local produce and crafts. After exploring the Old Town's historical charm, a leisurely stroll along the beachfront promenade provides a perfect way to conclude the visit. Benidorm Old Town effectively combines traditional Spanish charm with the overall vibrant atmosphere of Benidorm, making it an essential destination for visitors seeking a blend of cultural authenticity alongside the resort's well-known beaches and energetic nightlife.
