BENIDORM OLD TOWN on a Friday night is incredible! Come with me as we explore this holiday destination in Spain for a look around to see what Old Town Benidorm is really like and what's there, the bars, restaurants, shops and more! Picture this: you've escaped the usual holiday hustle and bustle and found yourself in the Old Town of Benidorm, or as the locals fondly call it, "El Castell." Forget the towering hotels for a moment, because here, it's all about wandering through a maze of charming, skinny streets that whisper stories of a time before Benidorm became the lively resort it is today. Perched on a little hill that juts right out into the sparkling Mediterranean, the Old Town feels like a step back in time. You can almost imagine the fishermen of centuries past mending their nets. It's sandwiched perfectly between the two main beaches, Levante and Poniente, so you're never too far from the sand and sea, but up here, the vibe is completely different. Think colorful buildings, practically overflowing with bright flowers, and the gentle clink of glasses from the many tapas bars tucked around every corner. It's the kind of place where you can happily lose yourself, discovering hidden squares and quirky little shops selling all sorts of interesting things. The pace of life just seems to slow down a notch here, which is exactly what you want on holiday, right? Make sure you find your way to the Plaza de la Iglesia, the heart of it all. It's a great spot to just soak up the atmosphere and maybe watch the world go by. And definitely head to the Church of San Jaime and Santa Ana – those bright blue domes are hard to miss and make for a great photo. For views that will take your breath away, wander over to the Balcón del Mediterráneo. It's like standing on a natural balcony right over the sea, with incredible panoramas of the coastline. You can see both beaches stretching out on either side – it’s the perfect spot for that iconic holiday snapshot. And when hunger strikes, you're in for a treat. The Old Town is famous for its Tapas Alley ("Calle de la Virgen"). It's basically a street dedicated to delicious little bites – hop from bar to bar, trying all sorts of local flavors. It's a really fun and social way to eat. Keep an eye out for local festivals too! If you're lucky enough to be here during the Fiesta Mayor in March or the Moors and Christians festival in September, you'll experience the Old Town coming alive with color and tradition. If you're after a more authentic and intimate Benidorm experience, ditch the big hotels for a night or two and find a charming guesthouse in the Old Town. You'll wake up to the sounds of local life and be perfectly placed to explore all its hidden gems. It’s a lovely contrast to the more modern side of Benidorm and offers a real taste of Spanish charm.
