We’re at Boston’s Logan International Airport and we just left what some say is the Best Priority Pass lounge in the U.S.
I’ll soon post a tour of that lounge, so please subscribe and turn on notifications and you’ll be one of the first to know when that video is posted.
Tonight, we’re on JetBlue’s longest flight and headed to Amsterdam in their biggest suite!
November 4-0-7-3 Juliet is fairly new equipment, delivered to JetBlue in 2023, and when I looked it up on air fleets.net, up popped this bizarre ad.
Anyway, JetBlue (like Virgin Atlantic) has cheeky names for all their planes such as “Hark! Blue Goes There?” And “Never a dull MoMint”. Our equipment is named “John Jacob Jingleheimer SchMint”.
This flight was delayed for some reason, but we eventually did board and the business class cabin is really quite something with 12 rows of suites. The largest suites are in row one —-only two of them—-and they are called “studios”.
To book the JetBlue Mint Studio, you’ll need to book a Mint Suite (their standard business class). Then, during the seat selection process, you will be given the chance to select your seat and choose the JetBlue Mint Studio for an extra fee (299 dollars each way). And, you can do this before checking out, so you’ll definitely know you’re getting the studio before you finalize your purchase.
Oh, and we did have the opportunity to possibly use miles and points for these tickets, but when I checked miles versus cash dot com, the calculator showed me that buying tickets was a smarter choice than getting award seats.
The studios are HUGE, and the footprint is square, not triangle like the rest of the suites behind. You can see here how my seat cuts into the space of row two.
You’ll find another power port under the TV screen.
There’s a “buddy” table (and seat) here in the event you’d like to dine with a buddy.
You’ll find a small, lighted storage bin at your side (with a bottle of water).
There’s a wireless charger as well, but mine did not seem to be working…
Check out this handy storage bin under the I.F.E. monitor.
And, here it is: the largest TV screen on any U.S. airline: a whopping 22 inches (that’s five inches larger than the suites behind us).
See a complete tour of the entertainment options near the end of this video.
All transatlantic Shut-Eye Service®️ flights leaving after 8:30pm feature a specially curated Savor & Sleep™ evening meal so you can dine and drift off to sleep sooner.
This is a very cleverly-designed amenity kit that transforms into a lightweight daypack.
I thought it interesting that they make separate cabin announcements solely for the mint cabin passengers.
Although they claim live TV is available on most flights, it was not always available on this flight.
And, there’s free wifi for all. JetBlue claims it’s “fast”, but I’d say it’s “adequate”.
Now, let’s talk about the closing doors in JetBlue Mint. They’ve been in the news recently and the press is not great.
Long story short: Due to an FAA ruling in March, any aircraft with sliding privacy doors must have an additional flight attendant above the mandated minimum requirement, allegedly for safety reasons. JetBlue did add an extra FA on its Airbus A321neos. But now, in an attempt to cut costs and comply with FAA regulations, JetBlue will soon return to just four flight attendants for these aircraft. For Mint passengers, this means that while their privacy door will still be there, they won’t be able to use it.
So, the question is this: was the Studio worth an extra three-hundred dollars? Probably not. That extra three-hundred bucks just gives you more space and not much else else.
