WHAT I ATE - Hawaii
@ La Gelateria
819 Cedar St., Honolulu HI
Susan's favorite Gelato spot going back to the 80s! And she's been to Italy where she ate a lot of Gelato to make her comparison!
Since we had one of her friends to help us eat, we went for every flavor in the shop that day!
All the fruit flavors were intensely vibrant and fresh. The standouts were the Lychee and the Pineapple Li-Hing (dried pickled sour plum powder).
Too bad this place doesn't ship to the mainland! And so, we have to go a little overboard and enjoy it while we're in the islands. One of the places we HAVE TO stop at when visiting Hawaii!
The shop is sort of industrial, very loud with the sound of freezers humming and no real seating. Sometimes, they may put chairs outside the shop. The parking lot is very tiny with the storefront recessed in the back. If you're not paying attention, you can miss it. We had to park about half a block away and walk there. Staff might be in the production area in the back, so ring the bell for service!
