Pt. M. Venkatesh Kumar is an Indian classical vocalist. He is Born in Lakshmipura in the Dharwad region of northern Karnataka. He is renowned for his husk, vibrant classical singing style, He is also popular in singing Dasara Padas & Devotional songs. He learnt Hindustani vocal in the Gwalior and Kirana gharana styles under the Veerashaiva saint and Hindustani Classical musician, Puttaraj Gawai. He blends these styles effortlessly in his presentations, though he admits to influences beyond these gharanas.
Raag Gawati (also known as Bheem) is a very rare raag is an underutilized gem of the Indian raag pantheon. Gawati is a “learned” raag, meaning, unlike many other major raags it leaves the listener with a pleasant and fulfilled feeling but it’s appeal isn’t very obvious.
The time to perform this raag is the "Tritiya Prahara" of the day i.e., from noon to 3 p.m.
This baithak was held at the initiative of Ved Gupta as a part of bazm e Khas foundation live concerts.
