DJ KOCO aka SHIMOKITA from japan gained fame in the dj community as a true master of this art form combining his signature super precise style, flawless technique & incredible stage presence into a performance that showcases all the beauty of the early days of hip hop while sounding fresh and up to date at the same time too.
from cologne, germany we have BEN* (turntable jazz) also known as the official dj for hip hop legendary poet & mc YASIIN BEY, supporting DJ KOCO.
in october 2023 turntable JAZZ & MC*5 introduced a new dj tour called 45x45 (45 to the power of two). as part of this tour they also played a gig at the MOJO CLUB. the series is dedicated to the art of djing with 7inch records also known as 45s (because of the 45rpm speed they are usually pressed at) as a tribute to the culture that started & created hip hop. using two copies of (often) the same record and extending the break or any chosen beat part by doubling it (also known as juggling) a new groove is born allowing mcs to rhyme on top of it. this formula created rap music or simply hip hop.
they were due a day off following their gig at the mojo club, instead both used their sunday to record a special beyond tribute set for 50 YEARS OF HIP HOP highlighting the djs part of arranging songs into new beats.
