Part 2 of the 2022-2023 Lunch and Learn series sponsored by the OLA's Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Intellectual Freedom Roundtable. Recorded on October 12, 2022.

This session helps library staff of all library types gain a better understanding of how to create a safe environment for patrons and staff who are trans and/or non-binary. Attendees will learn tips for using more inclusive language and being an advocate for gender nonconforming folks.

Speakers:
Hailey Carrell (she/they) is a Library Associate at the Norman West Public Library, part of the Pioneer Library System. They are currently a member of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Intellectual Freedom Roundtable, the Children and Teen Services Roundtable, and the High School Sequoyah Reading Committee. In their free time, you can find them reading or listening to kpop.

Casey Lowry (she/they) is the Digital Services Librarian at East Central University. They received their MLIS from the University of Oklahoma, and they have a BA in Film Studies from The University of Tulsa. Casey worked at the Edmond Public Library for five years before moving to Ada in 2016 to work at ECU. Casey served as the OLA Marketing & Communications Committee Chair from 2018-2021 and continues to serve OLA as a member of various committees and roundtables. In their spare time, Casey enjoys playing tabletop and video games, binge watching television shows, playing in a local band, and having trivia zoom parties with friends.

Syd Stephenson (they/them) is an Electronic Resources Librarian at Oklahoma City University School of Law. They received their MLIS from the University of Oklahoma in 2022 and earned a B.A. in LGBTQ+ Studies from OU in 2020. Their research interests include gender, sexuality, information barriers, accessibility, and open access. Previously, Syd has worked with Teen Vogue and GLAAD to bring awareness to issues facing transgender and queer youth.
