#'89年にアルファ・システムが開発、ハドソンが発売した、PCECDROM2用のARPG作品であり、イースシリーズのうちの一作。移植には山根ともお氏が全面的に関わってる。
イース、イースIIの初となるカップリング作となるが、後のカップリング移植と異なりストーリーを完全に一本化、このため、装備や所持金を除くステータスがIIに引き継がれるようになり、ゲームバランスは大きく変更された。
主な変更点として、グラフィックの多色化、背景演出の追加、重要キャラとの会話のグラフィックが音声に合わせて口パク、ビジュアルシーン追加、OP・EDの変更等が挙げられる。
BGMはCD音源を米光氏が、PSG音源は星氏が作・編曲し、PROTECTERSは容量の関係で削除された。
