The Bilsdale Fell Race put on by Esk Valley Fell Club is the only category AL fell race in the North Yorkshire Moors (24km & 1,200m). The route sets off from Chop Gate up to Round Hill (the highest point in the whole of the North York Moors) before turning west and heading over a series of challenging climbs (the Wainstones, Cold Moor, Cringle Moor and Carlton Bank), then turning south all the way to the Bilsdale Transmitter before dropping down to the finish. This was my first AL fell race and after placing well in a couple of shorter races I was keen to see how I would fair in a longer race. However I was woefully under trained for sheer volume and brutalness of the ascents and descents. Big thanks to everyone that helped put this race on, I can’t wait for next years.
