The Shasta Route is the Southern Pacific's main artery from Northern California and into Oregon, shortly after the end of steam on the SP, railfans were still treated to a show with EMD cowl and hood diesels reigning supreme in Black Widow colors. This program shows trains between Gerber and Salem during the 1960 - 1965 timeframe. Freights are seen with massive lashups of F units at the head end as well as Geeps and Cadillacs on local and helper assignments, as well as a few surprises.
This footage comes from the 8mm movie cameras of 4 different railfans, and shows first generation diesels working in beautiful scenery.
