Within the waking world and the nightmare, there are four distinct altars situated in the apses of three grand cathedrals. As we discover in this episode, the bodily remains of Laurence are a link between these altars. This conclusion allows for several revelations relating to the Surgery Altar and Laurence's unusual role in the establishment of the Healing Church.
