The 2025 BMW X3 represents the start of the fourth generation of the German premium brand's mid-size SUV, with the pioneering model levelling up yet again. It's good timing, too, as the new Mercedes-Benz GLC launched recently, while the next-gen Audi Q5 is arriving soon, so the competition is getting hotter at the same time.
So, what does the refreshed X3 bring to the table? Well, its exterior and interior designs have been dramatically overhauled, bringing with them the best that BMW currently has to offer. This approach also extends to under the bonnet, where high-riding wagon releases in Australia with two mild-hybrid turbo-petrol engine options: an entry-level 140kW/310Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder (20 xDrive) and a flagship 293kW/580Nm 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder (M50 xDrive). There's also a mid-spec plug-in hybrid (30e xDrive).
In this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist David Morley gets behind the wheel of the overhauled X3 at its local media launch to find out if it really has reset its segment's benchmark.
