Kazuyo Sejima, Co-Founder of SANAA Architecture Practice, Japan

Kazuyo Sejima began working in the office of architect Toyo Ito after receiving her degree in architecture at the Japan Women's University. She opened her own studio in Tokyo in 1987, and in 1995 she co-founded the SANAA Architecture Practice with Ryue Nishizawa. The firm has since designed numerous high-profile buildings in Japan, the US and Europe. Sejima and Nishizawa received the Golden Lion Award at the 9th International Architecture Exhibition in 2004 and the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2010.
