After being blown out by Georgia the year before, and losing popular Head Coach Dan Hawkins to Colorado, the Broncos promote from within...electing their Offensive Coordinator of the past 5 years, 42 year old Chris Petersen, to assume the responsibilities of Head Coach.
Petersen instills a culture of belief and hard work in a team that goes 12-0 against a soft schedule, finding themselves in the Cinderella position of gaining a BCS Bowl berth against national powerhouse Oklahoma.
No one expects too much from the upstart Broncos, just being invited had defied CFB's age old precedent. No one outside Boise, ID has a clue that Boys in Blue had come to Tempe with a rock in a sling and every intention of slaying Goliath.
