Video Not Working? Fix It Now

Eric revisits a large decandled Japanese Black Pine bonsai tree that he first covered in June 2021, this time focused on fall clean up. This tree has been container grown for the entirety of its 15 years, grown from seed. 0:28 Focus in the fall is on bud thinning, needle puling, and removing old needles from the tree to create more space. 1:22 Ensure the technique you use is applicable to the particular tree you're working on. With this tree, because of the density of the crown foliage, some of the lower needles aren't getting enough light. That's why the needle pulling process is so important for this tree. 2:47 Remember, each time you pull a needle you are removing a potential site for the tree to put out new growth! 3:41 What Eric looks at across each branch before he begins work. 3:58 Close-up of decandling sites from the summer & seeing the summer growth. To keep a silhouette compact, remove the longest of the summer buds. 5:35 Pull off discolored, long, or dangling needles to clean up the branching. 7:14 Eric focuses on the top of the tree, and why some work will need to wait another year. 8:56 Eric talks through the work and decisions he made during the cleanup process.
