Video Not Working? Fix It Now

Tutorial on how to replace [change] the brush & regulator (rectifier) pack on a Bosch alternator.Typical brush life is 100,000 to 150,000 miles and is the single most common reason why your alternator might be faulty and not be keeping the battery charged.

Bosch alternators are used in many cars, but I show you how to get one out of a 2007 Saab 9-3 petrol 2.0 litre turbo here:

This alternator has been regularly tested over the years using the methods shown in this video about testing your battery and alternator:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AT_XmlwMVz4&t=25s
which showed that it was starting to become weak. So I changed the brushes before it became completely unable to keep the battery charged during this season of high electricity consumption (lights, seat heaters, HRW etc etc)

Making these videos is a hobby for me. I’m using my 35+ years as an automotive engineer and car maintenance DIYer to make them and hope they help people out and maybe leave a legacy of knowledge for my sons and future Grandchildren (I learnt loads from my Grandads when they were alive). Don’t imagine that somehow these videos earn their makers a ‘mint’, they don’t. So if this video has saved you some time, hassle or money and has been an “enabler” for you and you’d like to show your appreciation by buying me a pint then follow this link
