প্রথম বিশ্বযুদ্ধের সময় কলকাতার ব্রিটিশ সেনাবাহিনীর বসবাসের জন্য তৈরি হয়েছিল শতাব্দী-প্রাচীন এই বাড়ি বা ব্যারাক। তারা চলে যাওয়ার পর তাদের বংশধরেরা যুগের পর যুগ ধরে বসবাস করছেন। সেকারণে তারা অ্যাংলো-ইন্ডিয়ান বা ইঙ্গ-ভারতীয় সম্প্রদায় হিসেবে পরিচিত।
