🎥 Johannes Brahms – String Quintet No. 2 in G Major, Op. 111
Performed by the Opus 76 Quartet with Guest 2nd violist Gloria Britez Scolari
📍 Recorded live at the Midwest Trust Center

Experience the rich, expansive sound world of Brahms in his String Quintet No. 2 in G Major, Op. 111, performed live by the Opus 76 Quartet with guest violist. Composed in 1890 during a summer retreat in the idyllic Austrian countryside, this radiant work was initially intended to be Brahms’ final composition—a farewell to the world of music.

Marked by warmth, rhythmic vitality, and lyrical beauty, the quintet unfolds in four movements:

I. Allegro non troppo, ma con brio
II. Adagio
III. Un poco Allegretto
IV. Vivace, ma non troppo presto

Overflowing with Hungarian folk influences and autumnal richness, Op. 111 blends structural mastery with Brahms’ deep emotional resonance. The Opus 76 Quartet and guest artist bring passion, precision, and expressive nuance to this masterwork of the Romantic repertoire.

The Opus 76 Quartet, founded in 2017, is praised for its “old-school European elegance” and “interpretive depth reminiscent of the Amadeus Quartet” (Gramophone, The Strad, Bachtrack). Hailed as one of America’s top string quartets, they’ve earned national acclaim through performances at major festivals, broadcasts, and venues—including a 2023 Carnegie Hall debut noted as their leap from “regional excellence to national recognition” (Gramophone).

Known for their expressive power and technical brilliance, they’ve collaborated with artists including Karoly Schranz, David Kim, Paul Neubauer, Alexander Markov, Julie Coucheron, and David Krakauer.
