2018 UC Davis Alzheimer’s Community Engagement Series
July 2018 Lecture by John Rutledge, M.D.

This is the third lecture in a six part series offered by the UC Davis Alzheimer's Disease Center for the Sacramento Metropolitan Area and communities throughout Northern California. The theme of this year’s series is healthy brain aging and prevention.

This presentation, by Dr. John Rutledge, will explore how consumption of a Western diet impacts neurovascular inflammation, which drives the development of vascular dementia (VaD) and Alzheimer’s disease (AD). He connects mechanistic findings exploring the Western diet and cognitive decline. This work has high relevance for vascular biology, lipid metabolism, neurovascular inflammation in cell culture, animal studies, and in human research.

Dr. Rutledge is a Professor in Internal Medicine, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of California, Davis (UCD). He holds the Richard A. and Nora Eccles Harrison Endowed Chair for Diabetes Research. He specializes in preventive cardiology, lipid disorders and reversal of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
