In 1938, a rabbit beat in the village of Jalahalli, on the outskirts of Bangalore in southern India, goes horribly wrong when a previously wounded leopard caught between the nets and the beaters' dogs unleashes its wrath. Fighting for survival, the panther leaves a trail of bloody and brutal maulings in its wake. Kenneth Anderson's skillful storytelling highlights an early and serious case of human-wildlife conflict, which in hindsight was a harbinger of things to come.
