This video looks at the basic history of the city of Buenos Aires. It begins with its double foundation in 1536 and 1580. Follows its status as a backwater within the Spanish Empire, its development as a center of contraband and continues on to its role as a main instigator of independence from the Spanish. It then looks at its conflict with the interior provinces, its emergence as a modern prosperous city at the turn of the 20th century, the arrival o hundreds of thousands of immigrants and then looks at how Peronism, and the long struggle for democracy in the 20th century changed it. It ends with Alberto Fernández.
