Sir Lindsay Hoyle has charged taxpayers over £275,000 for foreign trips in the past two years.
The Commons Speaker was accused of “swanning around like he’s the Foreign Secretary” after spending £180,000 on flights and up to £900 a night on hotels during 19 trips.
He always flew business or first class, even on short flights to Ireland and Italy, and once chartered a private plane to Montserrat.
Dubbed “Long-Haul Hoyle,” he spent £22,000 on a five-day trip to the Cayman Islands and £8,500 on hotels in Ottawa, with flights costing £15,000 for him and two staff members.
Kevin O’Sullivan discusses the story with political commentator, Rakib Ehsan.
