Leader of the Opposition Pritam Singh criticised the Government’s “poor fiscal marksmanship” in balancing Singapore’s expenditure needs with revenue. Speaking in Parliament on 26 February, he emphasised the need for greater public scrutiny and a more institutionalised approach to tracking allocated funds. He reiterated the Workers’ Party’s call for an independent Parliamentary Budget Office to enhance transparency. Singh also urged the Government to review certain Budget measures immediately. Specifically, he proposed allowing the second portion of the SG60 Vouchers to be used beyond participating supermarkets, extending eligibility to all small businesses and shops in shopping malls. This, he argued, would support small- and medium-sized enterprises while giving Singaporeans greater choice. On broader strategic concerns, Singh underscored the importance of national unity in uncertain times. He highlighted the crucial role of the Singapore Armed Forces, Home Team, and National Service, urging Singaporeans to fully support the country’s “men and women in uniform.”
