It is not impossible to make a fancy food like caviar at home. If you live in Alaska or any other places where salmon roes are easy to come by ( or you see Tham at a Japanese grocery store ) definitely give this a try. It is tasty, fancy ( if you want to impress someone) , easy to make and most importantly budget friendly!
1-1.5lb fresh salmon roe or trout roe
Brine/ Marinade:
1/4 Cup water
1/4 Cup plus 1 Tablespoon soy sauce
1/4 Cup Mirin
1 teaspoon sugar
2 Tablespoons sake or rice wine
1/2 teaspoon bonito soup base powder
