The A34 Comet cruiser tank was developed for the British Army during the Second World War to replace the Cruiser Mk VIII Challenger as an up-armed & improved counterpart to the M4 Sherman & Cruiser Mk VIII Cromwell tanks already in British service. The Comet carried the same 17 pdr High Velocity main cannon that had been mounted in the Sherman Firefly, but unlike the Sherman, the Comet was built specially built around this massive weapon & offered considerably more space & protection for the crews who operated her. The Comet first saw combat in January of 1945 & participated in some of the final battles of WWII.
